What we use it forFor live events, and conferences et cetera. Matching the native resolutions of our projectors.
What we liked about itWe were very impressed with this device, especially considering the price and what you get for your money. It is a very simple switcher to set up and use, and the quality is fantastic. Having a separate preview channel on effectively an entry level switcher is invaluable and saves carrying and charging for extra monitors. We found ourselves setting the switcher up with the free software and then running the show from the front panel using the pre-set keys. The software allows you to plot, size, mask and zoom your PIP on a virtual screen, fantastic. This means we can focus on any part of any source and make it fill the display. Something we haven’t been able to do before. We also liked the “FX”, frame stores are always useful, and the animated logos are a very nice touch.
What we would changeThere isn’t really much to add to the product at this point. We did find it a bit fiddly setting it up from the front panel, but this is easily rectified by using the software. The Quattro does so much it is difficult to use only the display on the unit. The only other comment would be more digital inputs please and HDCP would be very handy.
Where we used itWe used the Quattro Vue FX in a couple of scenarios, the first for a single 16:9 screen large scale conference, paired with a full 1920 x 1080 projector. We had HD powerpoint on DVI full screen using the Quattro to PIP our live component camera sources over the top, in various positions and sizes. The unit having only 1 fame delay meant no delay line for the audio. Occasionally fading full screen to video. Nothing extravagant, but standard procedure in our field. A job usually requiring a far more expensive dual scaler switcher.
The second was to piggy back it onto our Analog Way Di-Ventix , adding another layer. i.e. brining in an additional PIP and adding the animated logos.
