Polycom expands Skype for Business portfolio

Polycom Inc and Microsoft have announced that they will extend the Skype for Business user experience into more video products and services.

The updated service will extend the capabilities of the Polycom RealConnect TM system currently available for Skype on premise customers in Office 365 to non-Skype for Business endpoints. The service will be previewed to the public later this year.

Polycom is extending the Skype for Business meeting experience with the newly introduced Microsoft Skype Room System – the Polycom MSR Series (formerly Project Rigel). The MSR Series for Skype Room Systems makes the Skype for Business meeting experience available in every meeting room. Customers may also bundle the MSR Series with other Polycom systems.

The manufacturer also announced that the Skype for Business user interface has been added to its RealPresence Group Series video endpoints and voice systems including the Polycom VVX 500 and 600 Business Media Phones and the Polycom RealPresence Trio conference phone.

Existing customers who have moved, or plan to move to a Skype for Business environment will be able to access this new user interface via a software download. The three products will be qualified on Office 365 in Q4.
