UK school to replace teachers with AI programme
The David Game College in London will replace its traditional teaching programme with an AI-enabled ‘adaptive learning’ system, opening a ‘teacherless’ course for 20 students in September.

The students will use a mix of artificial intelligence platforms on their PCs, in conjunction with VR headsets. Dubbed the Sabrewing programme, each student will receive a personalised learning experience with a self-paced approach that is ideal for examination resit students.

All students involved in the programme will attend the college daily, studying amongst a group of peers, while receiving support from the college’s learning coaches.

The ‘adaptive learning’ approach works by regularly assessing students on how well they know each area of the curriculum and generating personalised learning pathways based on each student’s individual knowledge gaps and areas of mastery, prioritising and sequencing course material that the student needs assistance with. The system also highlights when students begin to struggle, directing students to additional materials and acting as a virtual tutor by answering questions and explaining concepts as needed.

Rudolf Eliott Lockhart, chief executive, Independent Schools Programme, commented: “The Sabrewing programme is fascinating. Using AI to drive an adaptive learning approach has the potential to be a real game-changer and at David Game College they are looking to underpin this innovative approach with serious educational expertise.”
