Architecture and design firm, Think Big Factory, has brought together video technologies, gesture interfaces and networked devices to present a working prototype of a smart building. In its Openarch project the company demonstrates a building designed from scratch to incorporate a connected digital layer that transforms a building into a flexible, interactive space.
Think Big Factory demonstrates a space where partitions can be moved so the space adapts to different situations.
The building is also connected to others, demonstrated with an incoming Skype call projecting a life size figure on to a room wall.
A Kinect based gesture based control system was designed for Openarch. Projectors turn almost any surface into an interface and users can operate all connected components within the house via hand and body movements.
