Plasa Show raises funds for Backup Tech industry charity
Plasa Show 2024 supported industry charity, Backup Tech, at the show, receiving multiple donations during the show that totalled more than 9,000 Euros.

Backup Tech is a charity that provides financial support to industry technical professionals, crew/production personnel, and people working in the technical supply chain across the UK entertainment industry.

As part of the #WeMakeEvents hub at the show, the Backup received multiple donations during the show, with Sherry Coenen running a social media campaign to decide whether to ‘shave or save’ her hair. The #WeMakeEvents after-party say that, at the time of writing, Coenen had raised over 6,600 Euros for Backup, donating 71.2cm of hair to the Little Princess Trust charity that provides hand-made wigs to children undergoing cancer treatment or suffering hair loss.

Plasa’s annual awards for innovation also saw the show raise more than 3,500 Euros from its entry fee for companies entering the awards. Backup Tech’s partner, Ambersphere, also dedicated a side of its stand to promote the charity, donating funds raised from its alcohol-free beer bar.

Piers Shepperd, chair, Backup Tech, commented: “Backup received multiple donations during the show, thanks to a lot of hard work from our fundraisers and the generosity of PLASA attendees,” says Backup Chair, Piers Shepperd. “These funds are vital, enabling Backup to continue its work in supporting members of our industry when they need it most. This year the fundraising strategies were even more inventive.

“The PLASA Show has always been an opportunity to find out something new, whether that’s a new connection, or innovative equipment and ideas,” he says. “Backup is grateful to PLASA for the opportunity to meet so many of our industry peers and to share information about how to access industry support. Raising awareness of the work we do means a great deal. It’s fantastic that so much money has been raised during the show and we are simply amazed by the commitment that all our fundraisers show.”
