Panasonic has revealed it is developing a virtual reality headset at a private show in Japan last week. The prototype was revealed to the press as part of a 'Wonder Japan Solutions' event in Ariake, Tokyo. The headset will see it go up against Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR headsets.
The headset houses an OLED display with a 90-degree viewing angle, which is capable of a frame rate of up to 75fps.
Panasonic has confirmed the headset prototype was made specifically for the private press event, and no decision has been made as yet to put the unit into full production.
Also on display at the event was an omnidirectional camera equipped with seven image sensors. Panasonic suggested the camera was being built for use at the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020, as it could be used for seeing athletes from a desired viewpoint.
