NEC facial recognition driven by the cloud
Following the announcement last week of the FieldAnalyst facial analytics tool, NEC in Japan has announced a cloud-based service based on similar technology. The engine behind the tool, aimed at retailers, is known as NeoFace and aggregates data about individual customers based on anonymous facial characteristic data.

Whilst the data is anonymous, the system can use it to track repeat customers across multiple retail outlets and since the processing is all performed on NEC’s cloud service, the hardware required at the user end is only a browser and a surveillance camera.
