Microsoft invests $1bn in AI technology
Microsoft has formed an exclusive computing partnership with OpenAI, pouring a whopping $1bn investment into the research company to create new AI technologies including a joint Azure AI supercomputing technology.

OpenAI plans to port its services to run on Microsoft Azure to develop further AI technologies and deliver on a promise to provide artificial general intelligence (AGI) and becoming Microsoft’s preferred partner for commercialising new AI technologies.

Microsoft and OpenAI will focus on developing a computational platform in Azure on what Microsoft describes as being on an ‘unprecedented scale’, training and running ‘increasingly advanced’ AI models, including hardware technologies that build on Microsoft’s supercomputing technologies.

Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI said: “Our mission is to ensure that AGI technology benefits all of humanity, and we’re working with Microsoft to build the supercomputing foundation on which we’ll build AGI. We believe it’s crucial that AGI is deployed safely and securely and that its economic benefits are widely distributed. We are excited about how deeply Microsoft shares this vision.”
