Microsoft highlights Mesh mixed reality platform
Microsoft unveiled its Mesh mixed reality platform at its Microsoft Ignite event, unveiling the collaborative and shared ‘holographic’ conferencing platform built on the Azure cloud service.

Mesh allows users to conduct virtual design sessions and host virtual social meetups by using avatars in shared virtual experiences, with Microsoft eventually planning to use ‘holoportation’ technology to project people in a photorealistic manner.

The platform will feature enterprise-grade security and privacy features, as well as access to data, AI and mixed reality services.

Users will be also be able to work with 3D physical models, appearing in a shared virtual space to collaborate and iterate on holographic models remotely.

Alex Kipman, technical fellow, Microsoft, commented: “More and more we are building value in our intelligent cloud, which is Azure.”

“In these collaborative experiences, the content is not inside my device or inside my application. The holographic content is in the cloud, and I just need the special lenses that allow me to see it.”
