Large area TFT shipments still climbing
Large area TFT LCD shipments are growing. A report from DisplaySearch claims total shipments hit 46.7 million in June 2009.

On a unit basis, LG led the market with 24.5 per cent of the market share.
June 2009 shipments were up eight per cent month on month and 24 per cent year on year.
On a unit basis, LG Display was the leader with 24.5 per cent market share, followed by Samsung with 24.1 per cent of the market, while AUO took 16.6 per cent.
Large-area TFT LCD revenues reached $5.3 billion (€3.7 billion), up 14 per cent month on month, but 17 per cent lower than June 2008.
In terms of shipment volume, June’s results indicate a continuation of the large-area TFT LCD industry’s recovery. DisplaySearch forecasts that shipments will increase again in July, but at a slower rate because the glass substrate shortage is limiting panel makers’ production. The panel supply situation will continue to tighten in July and August, which will result in higher revenues.
In terms of area, large-area TFT LCD shipments reached 7.1 million square metres in June, up seven per cent month on month and 32 per cent year on year, the largest amount yet. TV panels mainly drove the growth in shipment area. Samsung led in area shipments with a 27.2 per cent market share, followed by LG Display at 24.9 per cent, CMO at 16.5 per cent, and AUO with 15.6 per cent.
