The University of Southern California is using bespoke recording and projection techniques to bring Holocaust survivors' testimonies to life. New Dimensions in Testimony is a joint initiative between the University's Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT), its Shoah Foundation and Conscience Display. The survivors are projected before an audience as “holograms†and can interact with them using natural language software similar to Apple’s Siri platform.
ICT will use its Light Stage technology to record interviews in 3D and with up to 50 high-definition cameras for spatial and angular fidelity.
Natural language technology allows people to engage with the testimonies conversationally by asking questions that trigger relevant spoken responses.
The Institute hopes to develop full-size interactive 3D exhibits that can ensure the stories will remain alive even after the last Holocaust survivor has passed away.
