Extron has promoted Steve James to senior director of engineering after 25 years’ working for the company.
James designed Extron’s MediaLink and PoleVault systems and had a lead role in the development of the Extron Pro Control Systems platform. He will now lead the company’s engineering team.
Andrew Edwards, president of Extron, said: "With [James’s] experience in designing advanced AV technologies, we will be able to continue the rapid pace of innovation our engineering team has established, while also scaling to a new level and positioning us for long-term success."
The news comes after Extron announced Steve Somers [pictured right] would retire from his role as vice
president of engineering April 1, 2019. Somers welcomed James to his new position and said: "[James’s] proven track record and tenure provide an exceptional level of confidence that he'll be successful in his new role."
Somers joined Extron in 1988 and has overseen the expansion of the company’s engineering department.
Edwards thanked Somers for his service and said: "Under Steve’s leadership, Extron has grown the capabilities to engineer and deliver well over 100 new products each year.” The company’s catalogue now stands at more than 5,000 products.
