Dubai airport has introduced an iris scanner that verifies a user’s identity, eliminating human contact at the point of entry and departure from the country.
The partnership between Dubai International airport and UAE-based airline Emirates sees passengers pass through an iris scanner after check in, passing through passport control in seconds, connecting iris data to the country’s facial recognition databases which eliminate the need for identifying documents such as passports or boarding passes.
Facial data from Emirates’ passengers, along with personal identifying data such as passport and flight information are linked and retained for as long as needed, according to Emirates’ biometric privacy statement, however details are scant on how the data is used and stored.
