Universal will open its first theme park in Europe, offering a platform for immersive theme park experiences in the UK.
The new park, estimated to create 28,000 jobs at the approximately 476-acre complex could attract 8.5 million visitors in its first year, with the park due to open in 2031.
Universal, the production company behind hit films such as Minions, Wicked, and many cult classics from the silver screen, boasts theme parks in Orlando, Los Angeles, Osaka, Sentosa, and Beijing.
The company is known for its immersive rides and experiences at its other locations, including Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, and Transformers: The Ride 3D.
Plans from Universal Destinations & Experiences show that the UK site will include the theme park, as well as a 500-room hotel and retail complex. Universal has already bought 476 acres for the project, but could buy more land to increase the plot to approximately 700 acres in order to improve transport links.
