The fastest internet speed ever recorded now clocks in at a whopping 310 Terabits per second (Tb/s) as Japanese engineers shatter records.
Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology confirmed the record was set over 3,001 km with four-core optical fibre with claims it could be compatible with existing cabling technologies for near-term adoption.
Records are there to be broken but the speed with which this particular one is being newly set is astonishing. The new record takes the mantle from a University College London (UCL) team who themselves smashed a Japanese record in August 2020, demonstrating speeds five times faster than previously recorded.
In order to take get the record back to Japanese soil, speeds have been almost doubled from UCL’s 178 Tb/s.
