HP chooses USB 3.0 over Thunderbolt

Hewlett-Packard has chosen the USB3.0 connectivity standard over Thunderbolt for its next generation of desktop PCs.

A statement from the company indicated that HP had made the decision based on wider adoption and support for USB 3.0 compared to the relatively young Thunderbolt.

The technology was developed by Intel and Apple, with other vendors supporting it including Sony, Canon and Matrox. Western Digital and LaCie have demonstrated portable storage based on the tech, but are not yet shipping products.
