A Japanese basketball team recently wowed crowds when it played on a LED powered court. What initially looked like a standard wooden surface was transformed with dramatic digital effects that sometimes highlight players or aspects of the game. The court develops an idea we first reported on in 2014 when Nike showcased a similar court designed for training in Shanghai.
The court at the Yoyogi National Gymnasium can track players with tracer lines and circles that follow them during the game.
When the game is not in play the entire court can be taken over to display graphics, animations and various effects.
