Ikea creates immersive shopping environment with projection mapping
Video projection company Motion Mapping used Hippotizer Karst+ media servers and six projectors to create an interactive, projection mapped environment in a London Ikea store.

Twelve empty photo frames of varying sizes were hung on one side of an L-shaped wall. Each one was video mapped to synchronise with back wall projections on cabinets, hung in portrait and landscape, that lined the other side of the L-shape.

Colourful content slides seamlessly across the cabinets, walls and TVs. The closed cabinet doors are video mapped to show virtual stocked interiors, with projected images of Ikea tableware and storage solutions. When turned on, the TVs display scenes to give the impression of looking out a real window.?

Motion Mapping created an animated Ikea ‘co-worker’ character from a 2D sketch provided by the furniture retailer. The character moves around the walls, cabinets and desk, inviting the visitor to interact with the environment and explaining the specifications of the items for sale.
