Hamleys of Regent Street in London is one of the world’s best known toy stores and is celebrating Barbie’s five decades as the number one fashion doll with a video window display.
Mattel’s brand and design agency chose Urban Digital (formerly known as WindowGain UK) to install and manage the delivery of the Barbie birthday campaign at Hamleys. Urban Digital joined forces with rear projection specialists, Paradigm AV, to create a 95ft² (8.8m²) screen displaying Barbie’s image in Hamleys’ window.
The installation is based around four 84†dnp new wide-angle screens, for which Paradigm AV is the exclusive UK distributor. The screens are divided by narrow mullions and have been hard-edge blended and colour-matched. Four Panasonic 5700 projectors, cradled horizontally on four Paradigm Easy Erect rigs, are used to project footage of Barbie’s long and glamorous life.
The display, which practically fills up the entire shop window, is claimed to be the first of its kind to be used in the UK.
