Technology in reverse as researchers use paper as the interface

The Naemura research group at the University of Tokyo is developing technology that can digitally copy, edit and erase hand drawn sketches on paper. The system uses a combination of cameras, projectors and lasers as well as photo-chromatic ink and specially coated paper to allow electronic manipulation of real ink on physical paper.
